The Bad Day

The first married argument, about something small

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

We're doing this tired, and the test's in the cupboard behind the Rice Krispies like it's contraband. Can I have a do-over on the last ten minutes — not the whole evening, just from the bit where I said September.
Penny teacher
Do-over granted, on one condition: Monday at nine, I'm coming with you to the office door. Not to hold your hand — to hear you say it out loud the same way you just said it to me.
Algy designer
I was showing off, by the way. Saying September like it was free when I've got two invoices out and no idea when they land — that was me performing being brave. Nine o'clock, you can stand there while I say the real number out loud, not the brave one.
Penny teacher
Then say the real one Monday, invoices and all, and I'll take my six weeks off my timetable and not on my nerve. Right now though, the Rice Krispies can keep their secret and I want a cup of tea that isn't a discussion.
