Chapter 42 · Month 22 · The Wedding

The Good News

The budget line nobody wants to look at

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

The card's still on the table with $748 of your mum's list and none of my name on the paying of it, so I'm putting it back in the drawer before it becomes furniture. First though — did you want to tell Chloe, or shall I ring Mum and get it over with at eight?
Penny teacher
Before either — is it my $1,150 going into this or are we using the invoice you're still waiting on? Because one of those numbers I can write down tonight and the other one I can't.
Algy designer
The $1,150 — but only for the venue deposit, itemised, so you can write it tonight and I can stop pretending the invoice's a plan. My mum once ran a whole Christmas off a catalogue she'd already paid for; I got the optimism and none of the receipts.
Penny teacher
Then it's $1,150 on the deposit, not a penny of it unlabelled, and I'll write it in ink tonight. We tell Chloe first — she'll ask the question about the seating plan that neither of us wants to, and your eight o'clock to your mum can wait until I'm in the room.
