The first real conversation about children

Honestly, I got in at ten to seven and my head's still at the desk — that's not a complaint, it's an apology in advance. Is there still tea in the pot, or did you finish it?
Penny teacher
Tea's cold, but there's a fresh bag in the cupboard and I'll do it while you sit down. One thing first, so I stop turning it over in my head: before the test says anything, I'm counting this month as normal.
Algy designer
Right. Then I'll put the kettle on and count it as normal too — but I'd be lying if I said today's been a normal one. I sat in the car outside for twenty minutes before coming up.
Penny teacher
Then sit down, and while the kettle goes I want the same thing back you just asked for: if a month is bad, you tell me that evening, not from the car park. And I'll say mine out loud instead of writing it on a list first.
