Chapter 37 · Month 21 · The Wedding

The Vows

Vows that sound like a presentation

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

Algy designer
Penny, this is the bit I've written down — "I, Algy, take thee," then two lines about the car door and your lists. It reads like I'm pitching to a client, not marrying you; should I bin it?
Penny teacher
The car door made page one? Lord, that's not the meet-cute I'd choose — the guest in row two can decide it's very us or bin it. Read me the two lines about the car door and the lists before the whole thing goes in the bin.
Algy designer
It's "she told me my door was hanging off and I shut it properly" — and the lists line says you write things down so I don't have to. The plain one's true; the rest was me showing off in front of fifty people.
Penny teacher
Then we lose the line about the door hanging off, and the seven I pencilled in, and keep the two that are true. Mine's three sentences and I've had to read it out loud twice to say it once.

Who is treating the wedding as a surprise, and who as a decision?
