The Long Walk

The first married argument, about something small

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

Penny teacher
I've been meaning to say this for a week: you keep buying things so a Friday doesn't feel empty, and I've started counting the loo brushes. The drawer currently holds three, and we've been married six weeks.
Algy designer
Three loo brushes is a fair hit. I haven't known how to say I'm scared this is all there is, so I bought a plunger and hoped that counted as doing something — I don't know, Penny, honestly.
Penny teacher
Do you actually want this, or did you just like the idea of being someone who does? Because I've been carrying the calendar and the answers and I need to hear it from you.
Algy designer
I want it so much it's making me stupid, and I've been letting you carry it because asking felt like admitting I'd already failed. From Monday the calendar's mine too — I'll take the appointments and I'll ask, even when the answer's nothing yet.
