The Bad Day

The in-laws' new expectations

Biscuit tin, that's what your mum sent round — Diane's shortbread, and a card with a date I'm meant to have blocked out. I've been up since half six on the Stannard invoice and I swear the shortbread's the only thing winning today.
Penny teacher
Put the card on the table and I'll ring her — I'm not having her dates ambushing you on a Tuesday. And there's leftover pasta, which is unromantic, but it's hot in four minutes.

The card says the 18th, at theirs, two o'clock — the same Sunday as the park, which I'd already promised you. The truth is today was worse than "up against it" sounded; I got the Stannard email at four and just sat there.
Penny teacher
Eighteenth, two o'clock — then the park moves to the Saturday and I'll say it, not you. I need one thing back too, and it's not fixing: tell me when you've sat there at four, even if nothing's sorted yet.
