Kettle's on and it's 1:40 in the morning, so here's the news: we're out of milk, I bought a bathroom scale and a pregnancy test in the same shop, and the cashier didn't blink at either. I keep meaning to say the real thing and instead I've been counting the eight weeks like a man doing sums to avoid a sentence.

A scale and a test in one basket — romantic. Which shop, and did the test have a two-pack, because one test isn't news, it's a maybe.
Algy designer
Two-pack, $18.99, shop on the corner by the bus stop — I checked the box twice in the car like it might change its mind. Which is what I'm frightened of, honestly: that we tell your mum off a maybe and then have to untell it.
Penny teacher
Then we don't tell anyone until Friday, when the second one's done and I've read it on the sink, not in the car. And Algy — put the scale in the cupboard, not facing me.

Who is being unreasonable, and who is only tired?
