Chapter 57 · Month 33 · Starting a Family

The Bad Day

The question of who takes the leave

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

Algy designer
I've been sat here since half six with a leaflet on parental leave, and my eyes keep sliding off it. We're both knackered and one of us has to actually type in the form tonight.
Penny teacher
Put the form on the table and I'll do the first three boxes — but I want the leave split in writing, not "we'll see". Give me a number of weeks and I'll work the term dates round it.
Algy designer
Eight weeks, unpaid, from the July invoices onward — but that's scribble until I check what the flat actually costs without my half. I'll say it plainly: today was worse than I let on, and I nearly didn't come in.
Penny teacher
Eight weeks is noted, and my half's covered, so stop counting. What I need is you saying the bad days out loud on the day, not after the leaflet — kettle's on, sit down.
