Chapter 49 · Month 31 · Starting a Family

The Bad Day

The first morning with no plan and nothing to organise

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

Algy designer
The 14th's done, so why does a morning with nothing on it feel worse than the pencilled-in one? I keep thinking there's a list upstairs and I've forgotten where I put it — was it the sausage thing, the one from Dev's birthday?
Penny teacher
The sausage thing was nothing — I'll check the fridge now, because if it's Thursday those are going in the pan or the bin. Come and sit down; I've got tea and a biscuit tin with nothing to add to.
Algy designer
Sit down's fine, but I should say it plainly: today was worse than "long" — card refused at the counter, two coffees, and I bought a test next to deodorant. Say what you actually want to do with the evening.
Penny teacher
I want the sausage, two forks, and no talk of tests till Sunday. As for the evening, I'd like a do-over on the morning — proper one, no lists, and we can start by eating.

Who is being unreasonable, and who is only tired?
