The Misunderstanding

A test on the sink and the decision to wait

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

Penny teacher
There's a test by the sink and I've decided not to look at it till Friday. And I've done the money again, alone, which I said I wouldn't — $310 a week works out only if your invoices land.
Algy designer
Friday's fine — but I'm reading the $310 without a face on it, and it's not you doing sums alone so much as me hearing the total and stopping. Did I go quiet in the week without saying why?
Penny teacher
You did, and I filled the silence with arithmetic, which is my worst habit. Saturday you said twelve weeks and then nothing until the receipt for bin bags — what were you reading into it?
Algy designer
Truth: I saw twelve weeks and thought I'd been priced as the one who'd fall out of it, so I stayed quiet rather than hear it confirmed. The test stays by the sink till Friday — I'll do Saturday's form and say my number out loud before I sign.

Whose silence about it is worse?
