Chapter 113 · Month 47 · Starting a Family

The Bad Day

A test on the sink and the decision to wait

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

The test's still face-down on the sink where you left it, and I'm not turning it over till you say. I've got the potatoes in the bag and a receipt that says pregnancy test, two onions — I'd like to ask the shop for that do-over, honestly.
Penny teacher
Sit down, the potatoes can wait two minutes. If that test says what I think it says, then we're not deciding anything tonight — we're waiting till it's a real answer, not a maybe.
Algy designer
Fair enough. But I'll say one thing first — today was worse than I let on: I forgot the invoice on the hall table, so that's $400 further away, and I sat in the car outside for ten minutes before coming in.
Penny teacher
Then say your thing at the sink, not across the room — I'll turn it over if you stand next to me. And I need one hour on the sofa tonight where we don't decide anything, because I'm tired of being sensible.
