Chapter 104 · Month 45 · Starting a Family

The Long Walk

The first morning with no plan and nothing to organise

Oldest line first — the newest line is at the bottom.

Penny teacher
There's nothing on the list for today — I've written "walk" and nothing under it, which is either progress or a cry for help. We're heading past the park gate anyway, so say the awkward bit before I start organising the air.
Algy designer
The awkward bit is I bought the test with a bag of dishwasher tablets, and the woman at the till said nothing, which was somehow worse. So: a walk with no plan, and I'm not steering it — but I'll say mine.
Penny teacher
Dishwasher tablets — so at least one thing in that bag gets used this week. What I want, plainly: do you want a baby, or do you want to stop disappointing me every month?
Algy designer
A baby — and the disappointing-you bit is the part I can't do anything about with a plan, so I keep joking instead. We've walked past the gate; let's go round the long way and neither of us check the phone till the duck pond.

Who is being unreasonable, and who is only tired?
